39 YEARS AGO TODAY

Not only did Marvel finess the cover...
they only reprinted 90% of the story!

  2. They tried to find sequences that could be removed without affecting the story proper. As you can see from the next Daily Kirby, that page detailing the effect of events on the villagers wasn't vital to the plot.

    Comics were down to 18 pages of story at the time. Considering they didn't need to pay an artist again just to reprint, the stories should have been an exception. I guess they saw it as a way to make money advertising and considered that a higher priority than the integrity of a story most fans had already read.
