It has been proposed by at least one comic professional/historian that Kirby probably did so many pages in 1963 because, based on his more than two decades of previous comic book experience, three years of success on any book or trend was the usual limit. Kirby might have logically extrapolated that there may not be a Fantastic Four or Thor or Captain America in 1965, so he was going to get all the gold he could before the mine ran out.
