Bondage Time

Another thing the King of Comics was known for was finding imaginative ways to restrain the characters that he was paid to depict.

Even the Abominable Snow Hulk couldn't save the Hulk's first series from cancellation!

From the final Lee/Kirby issue. INCREDIBLE HULK #6 was by Lee/Ditko. It featured another transformation twist - Banner-headed Hulk!

THE RICHARD ONLEY THEORY

More than half of THE DEMON's 16 issues begin with the full-page/double-page open. (11 of them)

Was this because this was the best way to pull the reader into the story or was it because pages 2 and 3 were the only pages Kirby could put a double-page spread on without risking it being split in half by ads as was suggested by the perceptive Richard Onley in the letters page of DEMON #15?

A TRADITIONAL DIPTYCH?

NEW GODS #2 opens with a 3 page diptych followed by a 3-panel page. Kirby followed that up with these two pages.

GIVING KIRBY HIS DUE?

The Oklahoma Sooners take on the Clemson Tigers today and Marvel released an image of the teams fighting it out comic-book style.

The cover, which features a Clemson Tiger facing off against an OU pony (Boomer or Sooner, presumably), is a visual homage to Mike Zeck's cover for Captain America Annual #8, which featured Wolverine and Captain America.

A cover was also released showing Michigan State and Alabama mascots battling; that cover is an homage to Jack Kirby's cover for Silver Surfer #4, which featured the Silver Surfer facing off against Thor.
