George Perez did the the interior art. For continuity's sake Joe Sinnott embellished everything.

This was the only one that didn't have any interior Kirby art.

40 YEARS AGO TODAY

Kirby's interpretation of a popular cover layout arrived at the shops.

The earliest prototype for this layout that I could find was this 1949 cover for a hero of pulp, radio and comics fame...
In 1967 Dick Ayers adapted the concept to the War genre.
 John Romita (senior) did one later in 1967.
Even later in 1967 Gene Colan presented his take.
Dick Ayers liked the layout so much he used it again in 1968.
