It also contained 2 Kirby-drawn stories for a total of 19 pages.

58 YEARS AGO TODAY

This newly shipped Kirby cover might have given you a case of DEJAck VU
This Kirby-covered HOUSE OF MYSTERY would have been returned by the retailers for credit less than a month earlier.


Thor Heyerdahl's book AKU AKU sold out 4 printings by November 1958 pushing Easter Island & its distinctive statues into the mainstream zeitgeist of the waning Fifties era.

Maybe Kirby's story from TALES TO ASTONISH #5 could have appeared 8 years earlier if Kirby had read FATE in 1951.

This was the only war comic. Other than one western comic all the rest were romance covers.

MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS knocked LETHAL WEAPON 3 off the bottom of  the 200 All Time Domestic Box Office (Adjusted for Ticket Price Inflation) List. LETHAL WEAPON 3 took in $145 million in 1992 which equaled $276 million in 2012 dollars.

In order for a movie to make it on to that list now it would have do more in box office sales than current #200 THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY's $334,450,000 

MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS is currently at 29, the highest ranking superhero movie on the list.

Did any of the people that were still reading comics (after the mass exodus of the previous five years) realize that this Kirby-drawn proto-Giant Man character hinted at a new era of comics about to spring from the heads of Kirby, Ditko and Lee?
The five-pager from STRANGE TALES #70 is set four years in the future, the year that Hank Pym first became Giant Man.
