41 YEARS AGO TODAY

Maybe a sibling or parent bought this Kirby-covered educational comic for you.
Maybe they also purchased these Kirby-covered comics for themselves.

Including this one, which unlike the other 3, also had 17 pages written and rendered by Kirby.

  1. Had to look twice, but you are right, that Spidey Superstories is a Kirby cover, most identifiable as such by the buildings. Looks like Romita redrew at least the face on Sue, and redrew, or worked over substantially, the Spider-man figure. Cover probably closely follows a Marie Severin layout. There's Kirby in there, but you have to look, and on this one he was pretty much phoning it in.

    1. I would say Kirby roughed the figures, but Romita tended to make everything he inked over in his own image at the time. He didn't break the habit until inking his son's work for the second time. His style had overwhelmed his J. R. Jr.'s the first time, but then he learned from it.
