Writer/editor/art director Stan Lee thought enough of both Ditko and Ayers to allow them to embellish Kirby's artwork.

  1. Stan Lee once said that Ditko was his favorite inker of Kirby's pencils. What may be more interesting is that she made this statement to I forget who at Bob Kane's funeral, which is to say sometime after Kirby passed away. If he had made the statement during the 60s, it would have been maybe slightly surprising. But if said much later, as IRC, weird given all the other subsequent inkers, Sinnott and Royer especially. And I'd add that while I think Royer is my favorite, I wouldn't say Lee was wrong. Kirby/Ditko was a sweet combo.
