More than half of THE DEMON's 16 issues begin with the full-page/double-page open. (11 of them)

Was this because this was the best way to pull the reader into the story or was it because pages 2 and 3 were the only pages Kirby could put a double-page spread on without risking it being split in half by ads as was suggested by the perceptive Richard Onley in the letters page of DEMON #15?

  1. I suspect Kirby was filling a page quota. I've always thought this. I suspect it was why he started breaking his stories into chapters with splash pages. The 35 year grind was probably getting to him.
